This itinerary starts from Kolkata, a complete contrast to the empty lands of Arunachal Pradesh, before flying into Guwahati, the gateway to Assam. Our journey is sublime, taking you from tropical forests through tribal towns into the mountain roads and over the amazing Sela Pass at 14,000 feet above sea level. We have time in Tawang to immerse ourselves in this place of prayer and meditation. We also visit tribal villages and stay in Nameri, home to rhino, tiger and numerous bird species.

Itinerary

Day 01 - Arrive Kolkata

On arrival in Kolkata, you’ll be met by your Indus Bound Representative and transferred to your hotel, where you’ll be staying for two nights. Spend the remainder of the day recovering from your journey.


Day 02 - In Kolkata

A full day is spent exploring Kolkata starting off with an early morning visit to the colourful flower market followed by a boat ride on the Hooghly River. The afternoon's sightseeing includes the Victoria Memorial, St Paul's Cathedral and the Indian Museum.

Day 03 - Fly to Guwahati & Drive to Tezpur

This morning fly to Guwahati where you will be met and driven to Tezpur (03-04 Hrs). Rest of the day is at leisure to relax. 


Day 04 - Drive to Bomdila

Start your ascent into the densely forested high Eastern Himalaya today with a drive to Bomdila (04-05 Hrs). Visit the Tipi Orchid centre en route. Visit the local monastery and tribal villages this afternoon.


Day 05 - Drive to Tawang

A long but spectacular drive (06-07 Hrs) takes you over the high Sela Pass (4,180 metres) and into the almost mythical valley of Tawang. This beautiful town would be your base for next three nights. 


Day 06 - In Tawang

The next two days are free to explore the valley with your guide and driver. This will include visits to the Tawang Monastery which houses a collection of priceless artefacts dating back hundreds of years.


Day 07 - In Tawang

Day at leisure in Tawang. There are also many smaller nunneries in the area and the colourful 'Monpa' people with their distinctive head dress.


Day 08 - Drive to Dirang

Leaving Tawang with fond memories you'll retrace the route back across the Sela Pass, this time stopping at the settlement of Dirang (04-05 Hrs). The village still has much of its medieval architecture intact.


Day 09 - In Dirang

Dirang is a charming village to relax and spend time visiting the nearby tribal villages and the Shangtey Valley.


Day 10 - Drive to Nameri National Park

Dropping down from the forested hills onto the steamy plains and the rich ecosystem of Nameri National Park (05-06 Hrs) where two nights are spent.


Day 11 - In Nameri National Park

Spend a full day today in Nameri National Park. Although the reserve is home to tiger, elephant, sambar, wild dog, clouded leopard and black bear, Nameri is best known for its excellent bird watching with over 300 species recorded. There is a sizeable population of the very rare white-winged wood duck as well as, among others, white-cheeked partridge, long-tailed broadbill, three different species of hornbill, amur falcon and lesser fish eagle.


Day 12 - Drive to Guwahati

Drive back to Guwahati for a night (04-05 Hrs). Take a sightseeing tour of the city, including the famous Kamakhya Temple, or enjoy an extended excursion to the Silk Handloom at Sualkuchi to experience Eri Silk/Peace Silk production.


Day 13 - Fly to Kolkata

After breakfast transfer to Guwahati Airport for the flight to Kolkata. On your arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.


Day 14 - Departure Transfer

At time, transferred to Kolkata International Airport for your flight back home or continue your journey with us

When to Travel?

North East regions of India are best visited between October and November or February to April, when temperatures are comfortable throughout the day, dipping slightly at night when a light jumper should suffice if you're outdoors.
